The Less Obvious Presentations of Autism

Writer: drdonnahendersondrdonnahenderson

Here is a link to a video created by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In it, I discussed the core features of autism as they present in children and adolescents with subtle manifestations of symptoms and I also focused on the particular challenge of recognizing autism in girls. My colleague Bill Stixrud (author of The Self-Driven Child) then discusses the motivational and self-regulatory challenges experienced by students with a mild presentation of autism, emphasizing the importance of supporting the development of autonomy.

Hi Dr Henderson

Thank you so much for sharing this link. I am the parent of a child who is undergoing diagnosis of ASD & ADHD currently.

I am hoping that there is a place where this video is available free of charge please?

Hi Jade. I'm so sorry, I don't have free access to this video. However, you might listen to my interview on The Testing Psychologist podcast (I have a link to it in my blog). I cover some similar information in that interview. DH
